Environmental Education

Environmental Education

New state regulations, such as the Commonwealth's Environment & Ecology Academic Standards and the No Child Left Inside Act, have prompted the Lebanon County Conservation District to refocus its educational outreach efforts. LCCD is here to help schools and teachers weave environmental education back into—and out of—the classroom. Whether it’s a field trip to a local park, a lesson in the classroom, or resource materials, the Conservation District is available to help teachers provide an environmental education experience students will enjoy and remember. All of our programs focus on hands-on learning.

Envirothon

The Envirothon is a fun, academic, hands-on event which challenges students to think critically about the natural world and their role in it. The LCCD offers 3 levels of Envirothons: Elementary - Grades 4-6 (3rd week in May); Middle School - Grades 6-8 (2nd week in May); and High School - Grades 9-12 (1st week in May). Middle school and high school students are tested in the areas of Aquatics, Forestry, Wildlife, and Soils. At the high school level, students are also tested on current environmental issues.

The Elementary Envirothon is based on one theme, which changes annually. Previous themes included Watersheds, Agriculture, Energy, and Endangered Species. Study/resource material is provided for all the schools.
